Tottenham v Liverpool: Head To Head Stats Point To A Potential Blockbuster At Wembley

The International break has been too long but we are finally about to see the light at the end of the tunnel with Spurs taking on Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime in a potential slobberknocker.

Two teams with ambitions of not just the top four, this is a big early season test for both of this sides if either are going to have any sort of designs on challenging Man City for the Premier League title.

Pochettino and Klopp are two of the most intriguing managers in the top flight with both keen on playing an attacking brand of football and that has born fruit in clashes between the two teams in recent years.

It was Spurs who got the better of the matches last term, picking up four points from six against the Reds, including a 4-1 win at Wembley just under a year ago and it would be no surprise if we saw a similarly entertaining match this weekend.

In fact, we saw ten goals in the two meetings in the league last season which is hardly surprising given the amount of attacking talent each team is blessed with, and it is hard to imagine a 0-0 draw between two clubs with an intent on playing on the front foot.

There has only been one stalemate between Spurs and Liverpool and in their last 13 meetings and that came at White Hart Lane in Jurgen Klopp's first match in charge of the Anfield club back in 2015.

Indeed, there have been a total of 43 goals in those 13 matches, which is an average of just over 3.3 goals a game, and it will be interesting to see if we see that trend continue at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime.

The counter argument this weekend is that the Liverpool defence has been amongst the best in the Premier League so far this season with just one goal against their name in four matches with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez forming an extremely impressive partnership int he centre of the Reds defence.

This Spurs attack will be their toughest test yet though with Harry Kane of course the main threat, but Christian Eriksen in particular also in great form after another stellar performance for Denmark during the International break.

The Tottenham squad will be looking to bounce back from a surprise reverse at Watford last time out but they will be boosted by their displays against Liverpool recently which should mean we get an attacking game of football to enjoy.

Thank god the International break is almost over!
