Tour Championship Tee Off Times: The 4 Ryder Cup Pairings To Watch At East Lake

Tour Championship Tee Off Times: The 4 Ryder Cup Pairings To Watch At East Lake
15:08, 18 Sep 2018

The PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship promises to be a humdinger. The tournament marks the culmination in the Fed Ex Cup play-offs and every single player in the 30-man field at East Lake Golf Club, Georgia, can still win the Fed Ex Cup with a big showing this week.

The top-30 players in the Fed Ex Cup rankings are in attendance as they battle it out for top spot, while the tournament is also the last before the Ryder Cup gets underway on 28 September.

The Ryder Cup odds make USA 4/6 favourites for glory and we've picked out four of Thursday's Tour Championship pairings that have a Europe v USA flavour...

5.10pm (UK Time) - Rickie Fowler v Jon Rahm
It bodes well for the whole field that six of the last seven winners of the Tour Championship have lifted the Fed Ex Cup, with both Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm still in contention for the Fed Ex Cup and the $10m prize purse it carries. This pair are arguably two of the finest golfers yet to win a major, although Rickie Fowler continues to go close.

A runner-up finish at the Masters was one of five top-ten finishes during a frustrating 2018 for Fowler, who boasts a best result of 8th from four previous visits to East Lake.

Rahm tied 7th on his debut appearance at East Lake twelve months ago and the 23-year-old Spaniard has been in sensational form since bursting on to the scene at the start of 2017, winning five tournaments since.

5.30pm - Tommy Fleetwood v Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods is one to watch on this East Lake course as he won here in 2007 and he tends to start quickly, with the legend finishing the first day in the top-five of the leaderboard on four occasions in his previous eight visits. Woods returns to the course in Georgia for the first time since 2013.

This will be Tommy Fleetwood's course debut following a year in which he won in Abu Dhabi in January before picking up six top-tens, including a runner-up finish at the US Open. A major winner-in-waiting, the Ryder Cup rookie could be forgiven for having one eye on events in France next week.

6.00pm - Francesco Molinari v Phil Mickelson
Francesco Molinari is another making his course debut following a stunning year that saw him win three times in six starts during the summer, including his maiden major title at The Open Championship. He tees off with 2009 Tour Championship winner, Phil Mickelson, whose form has tailed off since he won in Mexico earlier this year, with his last fifteen stroke-play starts yielding just one top-ten finish.

7.00pm - Bryson DeChambeau v Justin Rose
This is THE pairing to watch. Bryson DeChambeau is the Fed Ex Cup leader after winning two play-off events, at Ridgewood and TPC Boston, already and he is set to play a competitive round on this East Lake course for the first time.

Justin Rose is the newly crowned world number one player following his runner-up finish at the BMW Championship and he sits in second place in the Fed Ex Cup standings. Rose plays these Donald Ross-designed courses well and has finished in the top-ten during each of his past five visits to East Lake, including a couple of runner-up efforts.
