Yesterday’s Stage

Another summit finish, another incredible win for Geraint Thomas. He took the win in the yellow jersey from a five-man group, beating Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb), Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale), whilst teammate Chris Froome was fourth and Mikel Landa (Movistar) fifth, Landa having benefitted hugely from the tactical riding from the front four at the head of affairs once they’d broken clear: so too did, Vincenzo Nibali and Primoz Roglic, who performed brilliantly to lose just 13 seconds on Thomas despite the former crashing crashed into a police motorbike that had slowed on a narrowing road and Roglic being dropped midway up D’Huez. See a video recap below:

Tomorrow’s Stage:

Bourg d'Oisans - Valence, 169.5km

We ride from the bottom of the alps to Valence to transition to the Alps but who’s left to sprint? Peter Sagan made it home today but just a day after Mark Cavendish and Marcel Kittel finished outside the time limit on La Rosière, Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) and two time stage winners Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNl-Jumbo) and Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) abandoned and now only Degenkolb (Trek), Kristoff (UAE Emirates), Laporte (Cofidis) and Colbrelli really Remain to fight things out - plenty of interest will be in a strong break especially for Quick-Step.

In other words, who knows?

Froomewatch

What Giro legs? He was fine and dandy as Team Sky, led by Egan Bernal, did their wrecking job on Alpe D’Huez and he was one of the four strongest up the mountain. His legs won’t be tested until next week but can he make the ground back on Thomas? There’s only so many stages left and more than a minute to make up.
