Today's best bet of the day comes from Market Rasen in the 15:00 Handicap Hurdle where trainer Tom Lacey saddles the 5yo bay gelding Triopas. He has been in good form of late with form figures of 313 from his last three starts.
His solitary career victory so far came last month at Chepstow in a conditionals race on good to soft ground. The manner in which he won by 4 and a half lengths was very convincing and he looks a progressive type. However last time out at Newcastle he was very keen and led coming to 3 out, although his jumping was questionable over the last few flights and he plugged on for third behind the winner Chu Chu Percy.
I'm hoping those in-running issues from a who horse who is not straightforward will have been corrected for today's race. With a drop down to 2m7f rather than the previous 3m at Newcastle, I feel things will come good for Triopas today despite the 7lb rise! Market favourite Wells Gold also faces a 6lb rise in the weights making this a very winnable contest for Triopas!
It's also worth noting that in hurdle races this season trainer Tom Lacey is operating at 20% strike rate with 11 wins from 55 runners with 17 of those also being placed! His horses seem in good form and I put up Jester Jet on Monday, another of Lacey's runners who turned out a convincing winner at a generous price of 11/2!
