Two Late Goals Hand QPR 2-2 Draw With Brentford In Epic West London Derby

Two goals in added time handed Queens Park Rangers an unlikely 2-2 draw with West London rivals Brentford, as Matt Smith and Luke Freeman cancelled out a Lasse Vibe brace in a pulsating game at Loftus Road in the Sky Bet Championship.

Dean Smith's Brentford had looked to have all three points sewn up when Vibe followed up his 52nd minute strike with his second goal ten minutes from time, but when QPR substitute Smith capitalised from Dan Bentley's error in the Bees goal on 93 minutes, there was still time for Luke Freeman to latch on to a loose ball, and knock the ball past a shell-shocked Bentley to hand Rangers an unlikely point.

Brentford had been dominant in recent meetings with their near neighbours, winning the last three matches between the two clubs, and they looked a lot more dangerous in the final third with Sergi Canos, who was making only his second start of the season, causing all sorts of problems in the Rangers defence, and he nearly opened the scoring just before the quarter-of-an-hour mark, but Alex Smithies managed to get a fingertip on to his long range right-foot shot and tip the ball wide.

Yoann Barbet was the next to go close for Brentford, but his left-foot free-kick from 25 yards just whistled over Smithies' crossbar, while QPR continued to show a lack of quality up front and Freeman's heavy touched nullified a potential opening, while Conor Washington's long range strike in the dying embers of the first half found its way into Bentley's mid-drift, and the sides went in goalless.

The home side flew out of the traps in the second half, and Idrissa Sylla rattled the Brentford crossbar moments into the last 45 minutes, as he flicked on a header on to the woodwork of Bentley's goal, as both teams continued to lack that cutting edge.

However, the deadlock was broken five minutes later as Danish star Lasse Vibe was given far too much room in the Rangers box, and he was able to swivel in the penalty area, and knocked the ball right-footed past Smithies, with Alex Baptiste certainly not going to enjoy the replay, as he should've been a lot tighter to the impressive Vibe.

Rangers had a huge penalty call just after the hour mark, as Luke Freeman managed to get a shot on goal, and it appeared to hit the arm of John Egan, but referee Steve Martin waved Rangers' pleas of a spot-kick away, much to the disappointment of a disgruntled Holloway in the home dugout.

QPR continued to toil without much quality, and a hammer blow hit them nine minutes from time, as some intricate Brentford play on the right-hand side saw Romaine Sawyers cut the ball back into the home team's area, and Vibe had broken free from the QPR defenders, and slotted the ball right-footed past Smithies to make it 2-0.

But, as the masses of home fans began to exit a sombre Loftus Road there was huge drama in the closing minutes, as second half substitute Smith used his height to upset Bentley, and with the goalkeeper flapping at the cross, Smith nodded home with two minutes of added time remaining, while before the final whistle, QPR launched a hopeful ball into the area, and it dropped to Freeman, who slotted home to level the match up in dramatic fashion, and it had Holloway and his staff jumping around with joy, as they escaped another West London derby defeat.
