England World Cup hero Jordan Pickford came up with another penalty save in Everton's game against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park today.
It was a save which kept Everton in the game at a crucial time and ultimately proved the springboard for a late burst for Marco Silva's men with two goals in the final four minutes from substitutes Dominic Calvert Lewin and Cenk Tosun.
With the game plodding along tamely at 0-0, Wilfried Zaha was blocked by Seamus Coleman in the box just before the hour mark and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot much to the dismay of the Toffees faithful.
Up stepped Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic who sent his effort low and down the middle but Pickford saved brilliantly with his legs. The save sparked the Everton fans into life but it was - by some distance - the most exciting moment of a game which had been something of a grind. It was Pickford's third Premier League penalty save.
Pickford has established himself as England's first choice goalkeeper and his performances during the World Cup, when Gareth Southgate's side were beaten in the semi-finals, were especially notable. The 24-year-old joined Everton from Sunderland ahead of the 2017/18 season.
The result meant Everton have won a third straight league game for the first time since January 2017 when Crystal Palace visit Goodison Park. However it's a depressing run of form now for Crystal Palace - they have won only once since they beat Fulham at Craven Cottage on the opening day of the season.
