It’s fair to say that UFC supremo Dana White had a long night at the office after one of the biggest shows in his organisation’s history to date was soured by the carnage that ensued after the end of the UFC 229 main event, the lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, but he still managed to pull up to a waiting media scrum and give his thoughts on the events of the night.
After what had been an entertaining undercard, an enthralling main event saw the title-holder fend off the Irishman’s challenge with a dominant grappling display, winning by submission in the fourth round.
But after events in the octagon were finished the bubbling hostilities between the two fighter’s and the two camps continued, with the Russian rushing over the side of the cage and jumping into McGregor’s corner throwing blows.
Shortly afterward, members of the champion’s entourage entered the cage and themselves engaged in a brawl the defeated former bel-holder McGregor. But what did White make of the scenes?
“Sh*tshow,” he said succinctly when he was asked to some up what had gone on.
Elaborating on his social media comments about police involvement in the incident, he said: “When the sporting event is over and you think you're going to start a fight then, it becomes criminal.”
The ramifications don’t end there for those involved.
“The NSAC is obviously going to do an investigation, they’re actually pulling footage right now.”
“Who knows if Khabib and his guys will even get a visa to get back into this country again. Big fines, I’m sure. Possible suspensions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.”
