Uruguay are one of the teams to watch in this World Cup. The star names up front are backed up by an incredible defensive unit including Atletico Madrid duo Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez, giving them the perfect platform to go deep into the tournament.
They finished ten points off a brilliant Brazil team in CONEMBOL qualifying with Luis Suarez hitting eleven goals as he warmed up nicely for this tournament. His previous two World Cups have ended in controversy after in 2010 he was sent off after that handball v Ghana which saw Uruguay progress to the semi-finals.
In 2014, he followed this up by biting Giorgio Chiellini as Italy took on Uruguay in the group stages which resulted in a nine-match international ban and a four-month ban from all football. He will be hoping he can have a positive tournament and be remembered for the right reasons this time around.
A Mo Salah-less Egypt lie first in line for this talented squad and Uruguay should make mincemeat of the Pharohs. Cavani and Suarez will be fed by balls by Rodrigo Bentacur and Matias Vecino, both talented midfielders who should be able to unlock an Egyptian defence at the flick of a switch.
After watching Russia stick five past Saudi Arabia, we should be in for a good game here as both sides try to keep up with Russia’s now superior goal difference. Goals galore expected in this one, although they may all be for one team. Suarez and Cavani could fill their boots here.
