Prior to Manchester City's shock 2-0 defeat to Chelsea yesterday many had felt Pep Guardiola's Premier League champions were untouchable, but as the Citizens suffered their first loss of the domestic season it was Liverpool that remained the only unbeaten side in the top-flight as a dominant 4-0 victory over Bournemouth launched them to the top of the pile.
However, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason believes his old club can make a bold bid for their first Premier League title and while they sit six points behind Liverpool and five behind City, Mason feels Mauricio Pochettino can ignite a surge for the coveted crown.
Airing his views on TalkSPORT's Final Word on Sunday evening, Mason turned his attentions to his old club Spurs, who beat Leicester City 2-0 last night and he was quick to sing the praises of his former manager and teammates and expressed his positive feelings towards their chances of toppling the big-two.
When asked about Spurs' chances of winning the title, Mason said: "I’ve said it all season and I really believe it. They’ve got a manager that’s been there for his fifth season now. They’ve got a squad of players who know each other inside out"
“For me, it’s probably suiting them that all the talk is about Liverpool and Manchester City because quietly they’re going about their business, they’re winning games and they’re within touching distance, added Mason.
With Spurs looking to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages in midweek, Mason spoke about the importance of the next month of matches by saying, “When we come out of this Christmas period in January we’ll probably have an idea of who the top two are or someone may have run away with it. The next six or seven games are crucial to see how the season will pan out.”
