Watford And Everton's €50m Standoff Is Scuppering PSG's Transfer Plans

Reports coming from France today suggest that PSG’s transfer plans have been scuppered, in somewhat unlikely fashion, by Watford.

France Football (via GFFN) claim that the transfer demands being set by the Hornets over a potential move for their Abdoulaye Doucouré to Everton is causing a blockage for the big-spending Parisians.

Thomas Tuchel’s side reportedly want Everton’s Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye in this window, and the player has told Marco Silva of his wish to leave.

Gueye’s credentials were rubber-stamped this week by a former Lille teammate in Benoit Pedretti.

“In a team, you need water carriers and it's not negative when I say it," he told Eurosport.

"And he is an exceptional water carrier.

“He has the right mentality. He does not talk much, but he is willing to do the dirty work for the team.

“He has the quality to play in Paris, because he knows the league and he speaks French so there will be no problems of integration.

“In addition to all that, he is fit and everything is therefore positive for his arrival.”

The Toffees, however, will only let the gnarly presence of Gueye go should they be able to bring in their chosen replacement, Watford man Doucouré.

But Doucouré won’t be allowed to leave Hertfordshire for less than €50m, which isn’t a figure Silva or Everton are willing to stretch to.

As if things weren’t complicated enough, all this jazz has led to PSG turning their attentions to the Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, per these same reports, meaning that both Everton and Watford may just hold onto their men after all.
