Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship with an emphatic 4-0 win over West Brom at Elland Road tonight.

The result will send a warning to the chasing pack after something of a wobble from Marcelo Bielsa's side in the wake of Spygate. Bielsa was in the spotlight again though tonight - he got booked for protesting a yellow card.

While Norwich and Sheffield United are still hot on the heels of Leeds, this was a huge win which had many suggesting the Yorkshire side were back to their best as the look to end their 15-year stint outside the top flight.

The Leeds fans were all over Twitter tonight to heap praise on their heroes and of course the enigmatic Bielsa.

"Back to the promised land we go!" enthused David Metcalfe on Twitter. "Bielsa is just amazing what that man has done in such a short space of time with the same squad as last season is amazing."

Morgan Taylor went even further: "That was the best I’ve ever seen this club play. Unbelievable, would’ve beaten prime Barcelona."

Pablo Hernandez scored after just 16 seconds and Leeds doubled their lead when Patrick Bamford scored. Bamford added a deflected second and Ezgjan Alioski completed the scoring.

Leeds are just a point clear at the top of the Championship with second-placed Norwich at Millwall tomorrow. Third-placed Sheffield United take on their neighbours Wednesday this Monday.

West Brom have promotion hopes of their own but they came up well short tonight.

After the game, Leeds United's Tyler Roberts told Sky Sports: "Losing the last game, we needed to show what we're about and get back to how we were at the beginning of the season. We definitely did that. We started the game quickly and that was the goal. We did that and continued that throughout the match."
