Manuel Pellegrini will take the current international break to assess his current West Ham United squad and the veteran manager will be writing down a list of potential transfer targets he could look to lure in when the window reopens in January and one name that could be at the top of Pellegrini's list if Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.
Cahill has struggled for game time under Maurizio Sarri at the Blues this season and has already spoken of his need to play football as he enters the latter stages of his playing career and the 32-year-old could relish the chance to make the short move to the London Stadium to play for the Hammers.
Down the pecking at Stamford Bridge since Sarri's arrival, Cahill has watched his teammates launch themselves into second place behind Manchester City in the Premier League, but he has outlined his disappointment of being left out of the starting XI for most of the season and has made it clear that he wants to get some action on the pitch.
After a dreadful start to the campaign, West Ham have just found their way in the last six weeks or so, duly dragging themselves out of the relegation zone, but Pellegrini will know only too well that he needs to strengthen his squad in January if he is to remain in the top-flight and Cahill could prove to be an excellent addition to the squad.
Cahill is out of contract at Chelsea next summer, so it would be no surprise to see the Blues offload him in January and West Ham would be an ideal fit.
