Who Is In The Running To Replace Frank Lampard As Everton Manager?

Frank Lampard was dismissed earlier today after recording only three wins and 15 points from 20 games this season

Frank Lampard’s tenure at Everton came to an end on Monday afternoon after the 44-year-old was sacked following the weekend’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium.

Lampard, who took the Toffees hot seat in January 2022 after the dismissal of Rafa Benitez, oversaw a run of just one point from Everton's past seven league games. They are now in considerable danger of being relegated from the Premier League for the first time in their history, with only three wins and 15 points from 20 games this season.

Everton’s survival hopes are slim and they are just 8/13 with Betfred to be relegated to the Championship, meaning appointing the right man is utterly imperative if they want to maintain their status as one of six clubs never to drop out of the Premier League.

There are a few names already in the frame for the job and below we run through the favourites courtesy of the Betfred markets.

Next Permanent Everton Manager

Sean Dyche - 2/1

It feels like the former Burnley manager has been linked with every vacant managerial spot going since he departed Turf Moor in April. Dyche worked miracles with the Clarets despite a shoestring budget. His style of football isn’t to everyone’s taste however. Could he rediscover his mojo at Goodison Park?

Duncan Ferguson - 3/1

It wouldn’t be a next Everton manager shortlist without this club icon mentioned. Ferguson made more than 200 appearances for Everton as a player and has been part of the coaching set-up for years, starting in the academy before moving up to first team coach. He’s had two spells as caretaker manager following the dismissals of Marco Silva and Benitez, and also worked as the assistant to the latter and Carlo Ancelotti.

Marcelo Bielsa - 4/1

Former Leeds United manager and fan favourite Marcelo Bielsa has been out of work since leaving Elland Road in February last year. The 67-year-old has a stacked CV, with stints in international management with Argentina and Chile, as well as spells in La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Premier League. He famously took Leeds back to the English top-flight after 16 years away - could he be the man to keep Everton from dropping out?

Wayne Rooney - 7/1

What a story this would be. One of the greatest English footballers of all-time, hometown hero Wayne Rooney has won pretty much everything as a player but is still very much in the embryonic stage of his managerial career. An admirable spell at cash-strapped Derby County, despite relegation to League One, certainly gave him some credit but the jury might still be out on him after an underwhelming first season as DC United’s head coach.

David Moyes - 8/1

Having spent 11 years as a manager at Goodison Park, few coaches know Everton better than David Moyes. The Scot even delivered Champions League football to the Toffees faithful in 2004/05 when the club finished 4th in the Premier League. The current West Ham manager is partly responsible for the current vacancy at Everton, with his side hammering the final nail into Lampard’s coffin with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

Nuno Espírito Santo - 9/1

Another familiar name on the shortlist. Nuno Espírito Santo did a phenomenal job at Molineux with Wolverhampton Wanderers, taking the side to the Premier League after a six year absence, cementing their status in the top-flight and reaching the Europa League quarter-finals. The less said about his five-month soiree in charge of Tottenham Hotspur the better though. Santo is currently in charge of Saudi Professional League outfit Al-Ittihad.

Leighton Baines - 12/1

Domenico Tedesco - 14/1

Sam Allardyce - 14/1

Ange Postecoglou - 20/1

Vincent Kompany - 20/1

Brendan Rodgers - 20/1

Mauricio Pochettino - 20/1

Kjetil Knutsen - 33/1

Diego Simeone - 33/1

Chris Wilder - 33/1

Graham Potter - 33/1

Lee Carsley - 33/1

Carlo Ancelotti - 33/1

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - 40/1

Thomas Thomas - 40/1

Russell Martin - 40/1

John Terry - 40/1

Dean Smith - 401

Ruud Van Nistelrooy - 40/1

Thomas Tuchel - 40/1

Gary Rowett - 40/1

Roger Schmidt - 50/1

Steven Schumacher - 50/1

Rafa Benitez - 50/1

Roy Keane - 66/1

Steven Gerrard - 66/1
