Crystal Palace fans of the world rejoice! Their three time Player of the Year Wilfried Zaha has signed a new contract that will keep him at Selhurst Park for the foreseeable future.
The Ivorian was heavily linked with a move across London to join Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham Hotspur this summer but is now set to remain in the blue and red of Crystal Palace.
Zaha last signed a contract back in May 2017 but the breaking news will be greeted with the utmost elation in the south of the capital. His new contract expires in another five year, at the end of the 2022/23 season.
This undoubtedly gives Palace supporters and manager Roy Hodgson more reason to cheer, with the club opening their account for the new season in the Premier League with a 2-0 away win over newly promoted Fulham, a game in which Zaha scored.
Zaha has been at his boyhood club since the age of four, with an interim period at Manchester United between 2013 and 2015, where he has the distinction of being Sir Alex Ferguson’s last ever signing for the Red Devils..
Struggling to get into the squad during a tumultuous period for the club, Zaha was sent on loan to Cardiff City before returning to the adoration in South London three years ago.
Last season the 25 year-old was the Eagles’ top scorer and registered the third highest assists for the team.
The loyalty and commitment shown by Zaha to Palace should even please the neutral in a time in which big money talks.
