With Lionel Messi taking his place on the Barcelona bench this evening it was up to one of Barcelona’s youngsters to take centre stage and Ousmane Dembele did just that. Up against Leganes at the Nou Camp, the French World Cup winner ran the show and put on a sizzling display for the crowd watching on.

Dembele thrilled the crowd with a wonderful display of skill and pace which saw him open the scoring in Barcelona after a wonderful run from the halfway line. He played a sumptuous one-two with Jordi Alba before sweeping the ball in from just inside the box.

Fans were also left drooling after a brilliant nutmeg from the Frenchman left a Leganes defender stranded. Well-known Chelsea fan Alex Goldberg commented on social media: “Ousmane Dembélé is a constant reminder to NEVER say a player is overrated or a bust at 20 years old. The kid is going to the top.”

Chelsea fans heaped the praise on him saying things like: “He's unreal!!! And to think there were rumours that he's out. He flipped the switch and earned the starting spot. Immense!!!” and “So wish we bought him” in the replies whereas several other fans of Premier League clubs also had their say on social media.

“Ousmane Dembélé is at Mbappé’s level, don’t @ me.” One fan said whilst other football fans were left purring at his talent. Amazingly, Dembele has now scored exactly the same amount of first-team goals with his right foot as he has with his left and it is this two-footedness that makes him such as fun player to watch and such a captivating player for fans.

He came off for Messi in the second half but what an impact he made in that first 45 minutes, helping Barcelona to all three points that extended their lead at the top of La Liga table.
