There was a general acceptance amongst most football fans that the better team won when Croatia beat England 2-1 in the World Cup semi-final, although that didn't stop one drunken "thug" reacting badly on live television.
Newshub's European Correspondent, Lloyd Burr, was broadcasting from a pub in Croydon, London, as the England match was drawing to a close and one so-called 'fan' threw a pint in the journalist's face during a live interview.
Burr remained a consummate professional, saying "It's gone from jubilation to frustration, then anticipation... now it has turned to anger" as he spoke directly to the camera for The AM Show in New Zealand.
The incident wasn't over though as the angry individual then lunged at Burr before he was restrained.
Back in New Zealand, The AM Show host Duncan Garner was clearly worried about his colleague as he implored someone to help.
"Can someone in England get around Lloyd and look after him," he said. "What a bunch of thugs, what a complete thug that guy is."
Burr was unharmed in the incident and later Tweeted about his experience.
"First time to Croydon, south London and what an initiation! Apart from the beer in the face (by a drunken Aussie), it was an epic atmosphere to watch a great game. @simonmorrowNZ and I are all good. Thanks for your kind messages."
The drunken punter apparently hailed from Australia, which might partially explain his apparent dislike for New Zealander Burr. You can see Burr's professionalism in the face of idiocy in the video below...
