You Will Not Be Able To Name The Top-20 European Cup Goalscorers Of All Time

Cristiano Ronaldo, as he tends to do, grabbed the spotlight and all the plaudits last night after he bagged the eighth Champions League hat-trick of his career in a 3-0 win over his old foes Atletico Madrid.

The £99m Juventus superstar made sure he celebrated in style too, copying Diego Simeone’s ‘cajones celebration’ as The Old Lady booked their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals for the fourth time in six years, while goal-machine Ronaldo is bidding to win the competition for the fourth year in a row.

The Portuguese phenomenon got his mitts on the Champions League trophy a total of four times with Real Madrid, and once with Man Utd, meaning if he leads Juventus to glory this time around then he’ll become only the second player to triumph with three different clubs (Clarence Seedorf: Ajax, Real Madrid, and AC Milan).

Perhaps surprisingly, Ronaldo had only scored one goal in the competition since switching to Juventus in the summer, but his new tally of four means he’s now within four goals of leader Robert Lewandowski, while Dusan Tadic, Moussa Marega, and Lionel Messi all have six goals to their name so far.

Less surprisingly, Ronaldo tops the pile for Champions League goals by season; bagging the Golden Boot no fewer than seven times, including the last six campaigns with Real Madrid.

A number of the game’s most potent poachers have also got their hands on the individual award, many of whom feature in The Sportsman’s latest quiz - which you can find below.

You now have FIVE MINUTES to name the all-time Top-20 All-Time European Cup Goalscorers. Remember football did exist before the inauguration of the Champions League in 1992/93, so get your thinking caps on and hammer that keyboard with your answers!
