Zlatan Ibrahimovic has set his sights on winning everything this season with Manchester United following his return to action after a long spell on the sidelines.

The 36-year-old made his first United appearance in seven months against Newcastle United at the weekend after he tore his ACL in April. Marcos Rojo and Paul Pogba also returned during that match following long-term injuries.

Ibrahimovic is confident United’s squad is now healthy and strong enough to compete on all fronts this season, as they look to close the gap on Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

City are currently eight points clear but the loss of key defender John Stones for 4-6 weeks due to a hamstring injury and a hectic Christmas schedule could see the league leaders drop points.

Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports: "I think we can chase City, why is it not a possibility? We are all here because we want to win and we need to because they are first.

"I can talk of what Paul brings - big quality. Against Newcastle it was like he hasn't been injured for a month, he brings such big quality, a different quality and I bring experience and mine.

"I try to help the guys much as possible and do what I can.”

The Swede spoke of United boss Jose Mourinho’s happiness of having a full squad available for the first time this season with only a couple of players missing with knocks.

Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Michael Carrick were the only injury concerns for Mourinho at the weekend, while the trio are also expected to miss United’s Champions League match against FC Basel on Wednesday.

He added: "This week the manager has been very happy because he has a full team for the first time this season and as a coach you want those opportunities and alternatives to make changes.

"I think there is a possibility of winning everything. We were early into it last year and won two trophies and we are stronger this season. We believe we can do it."

"It's fantastic to be playing," he said. "Jose said, 'Do whatever you want, I trust in you and you know what you have to do,' so I was not worried.

Ibrahimovic is set for his first appearance in the Champions League this season against FC Basel, although he is likely to feature from the bench as he builds up his fitness.

Mourinho may stick with Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial in attack following their impressive showing during the Reds 4-1 victory over the Magpies.
