Manchester United are back in Champions League action tonight hoping to get their season back on track in European competition. The Red Devils are reeling after losing away at West Ham in the Premier League as the pressure mounts on Jose Mourinho and his side. Fractions are appearing between players and the manager with Paul Pogba the centre of the focus of Mourinho’s attention.
But cast your mind back a decade and United were England’s strongest hope in Europe, repeatedly reaching the latter stages of the competition and winning it. Players such as Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar and Paul Scholes were all key men under the great Sir Alex Ferguson but the good times have disappeared with the departure of the legendary Scottish manager.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and now Jose Mourinho have all tried to bring the good times back to Old Trafford on the European stage but only Moyes has reached the latter stages of the competition and that was with Fergie’s squad. Since then the club have had to dip into the Europa League, although they did win that competition they are now back in the big time under their Portuguese boss.
They started this campaign well with a comfortable 3-0 win over Young Boys but Valencia will provide a sterner test in Manchester tonight. This quiz is about their past glories though, how much do you know about United’s European success?
