Gareth Southgate has lead England to their best calendar year for decades and restored pride in the national team once again. A World Cup semi-final and a place in the final four of the Nations League marks an incredible 12 months for the Three Lions and the squad now has a fresh young look to it for once.
England kicked off their calendar year with an impressive 1-0 win over Holland in Amsterdam, with Southgate still testing out a few players and systems ahead of the World Cup. A semi-final in Russia looked an unlikely possibility back then, but Southgate honed his team and system to find a way through.
There was also a big discussion on who should be England captain and England’s number one goalkeeper heading into the tournament but as we know, things quickly sorted themselves out and the nation began to believe as the squad jetted off to Russia.
A dramatic last-minute win against Tunisia sent the country wild before a spanking of Panama saw us into the knockout stages. Remarkably, England then beat Colombia on penalties, winning their first ever World Cup penalty shootout before Sweden were swept aside with ease.
Unfortunately, the wonderful run ended as Croatia were too strong for Southgate's men but the country was inspired and had fallen in love with international football once again.
Below we have put together a little quiz to remember the year. But can you name every one of the 38 legends to have represented England this year?
