Vincent Kompany’s Manchester City career is being celebrated today as the club captain celebrates a decade at the club. 10 years since he arrived in Manchester from Hamburger, the Belgian has really made a big impact on the city and the club he chose as his home.
Three Premier League titles, including that dramatic last-gasp one sealed by Sergio Aguero in 2012 along with one FA Cup and three League Cups during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
Ten years have flown by since Vincent made his debut against West Ham back in 2008 and the players he has played with have certainly changed as well! There were some incredible names in that squad that faced West Ham, including Kasper Schmeichel and Felipe Caicedo who were both unused substitutes that day.
A rampant 3-0 win followed for Mark Hughes’ men, with The big Belgian Kompany a key component to that side as he has been ever since that debut. Can you remember the names that lined up alongside him that day?
Kompany, having showed what an incredible role model he was during the Amazon Prime documentary ‘All or Nothing’ will be hoping to follow up Man City’s success last season with another Premier League title. During that documentary, there was a moment where Vincent was being interviewed by school children and rather poignantly explained who Nelson Mandela was and his impact on history.
Back to football though and how much can you remember from this Manchester City team 10 years ago?
