With the World Cup on our doorstep over the next month and the Ashes to follow, it’s certainly shaping up to be a sizzling summer of cricket. Now, the creators of documentaries such as Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager, Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans and ITV’s acclaimed documentary series Out Of Their Skin, have created a film to go with this stunning year of cricket.

NoahX in association with Heavy Soul Films, proudly presents the trailer for The Edge - the rock ‘n’ roll story of the England Test cricket team’s rise from the depths of the rankings to become the first English side to reach world number one.

‘No England team rose higher…  and fell harder.’

One of the toughest sports on the planet, and psychologically perhaps the most challenging,

the film explores the unique intensity of the game and the ruthless impact it can have on players’ mental health.

Featuring incredible unseen footage from the period, and captivating new interviews from star players and coaching staff including; Andrew Strauss, Sir Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Kevin Pietersen, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Jonathan Trott, Monty Panesar and Andy Flower, The Edge captures the team’s intense but often hilarious pursuit of success.

Strauss and Flower took over a hugely talented team of players who would go on to make history, transforming them into a record-breaking winning machine before the pressure and scrutiny began to fracture bodies and minds.

Director, Barney Douglas commented: “I’m fairly certain this is not your normal cricket film! The players and coaches have been incredible with their humour and honesty. I really hope this film helps widen awareness of mental health and becomes part of an incredible summer for English cricket.”

The Edge is proud to support Heads Together, a mental health initiative spearheaded by The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which aims to change the national conversation on mental health, through tackling stigma and developing new programmes and tools to help areas of specific need.

In addition, The Edge and the players will be donating proceeds to The Ruth Strauss Foundation, a charity that has recently been formed in memory of Ruth Strauss, the wife of former England Captain, Andrew Strauss.

Written by Gabriel Clarke, the film is released in cinemas and across all platforms on 22nd July 2019 and is available on pre-order from iTunes & Amazon from 22nd May at https://www.theedgefilm.com/
