Sneakers and popular culture go hand in hand and collaborations with athletes and musicians are as common as they are profitable. The world of travel and adventure however, is not one that generally manifests itself as a shoe colourway and to be quite honest is not something we realised was missing from the collection until now. This collaboration between Vans and travel specialists National Geographic celebrates 130 years of the publication’s ‘longstanding tradition of seeking and storytelling’ which might sound a little vague but does truly come to life on the Van’s collection.

The run includes unique National Geographic photographs and logos on six Van outings: the Sk8-Hi Reissue 138, Old Skool, Authentic, Era, Classic Slip-On, and UltraRange EXO. For some, like the Sk8-Hi, it’s simply the logo that stands proud. On others, like the Era, the entire shoe boasts an all over print of National Geographic vocoders from the past. And should being a walking advert for a magazine not be your thing, there are some incredible wildlife images from photographer Joel Sartore to ensure you stand out from the usual basketball high tops on the High Street.

Away from the sneakers, the collection runs through to short-sleeve t-shirts and boardshorts and even a backpack but trust us, with this Vans National Geographic magazine collaboration, the headlines are entirely at foot level. Recommended.
