The Lincoln takes place at Doncaster on Saturday and that means only one thing - the flat season is here.
To celebrate the return of racing on the level we’ve picked one from tonight’s card at Newcastle, the likes of which have been keeping fans of the summer game entertained all winter.
The 18:05 there tonight is an intriguing little Novices’ affair over over 1m 2f.
The market has an odds-on shot perched atop it in the form of Simon Crisford’s Bobby K. That one is a thrice-raced winner stepped up two furlongs in trip this evening and can go well.
Velvet Vision comes next in the market and it’s Mark Tompkin’s filly that we’d like to be with. This daughter of Nathaniel ran a fine race on debut at the venue last time, travelling smoothly throughout and coming second without being knocked about.
The step up in trip will undoubtedly suit her on pedigree and also on the visual impression of that debut effort. That, added to the fact that she gets a valuable chunk of weight from the other runners through the fillies allowance, leaves her well positioned to run with credit under Paul Mulrennan.
Mark Johnston’s Arch Gold hasn’t achieved a great deal in his trips to the racecourse to date, neither has Jedd O’Keefe’s Pretty Moi. The unraced Zarjaz can be passed over readily and that completes the field.
At odds of 2/1, Velvet Vision can be backed with confidence to improve enough to win in the North East tonight.
