The running of Saturday's Derby at the Curragh will be the story of the week in Irish racing but an evening meeting at Tipperary will keep things tipping over in the interim.
It’s the second race on the card that we’ve taken an interest in, a 5f Handicap that gets off at 18:20.
Jenniechild has been slipping down the handicap for a long while now and might be well weighted to strike after a nice run off a break last time.
Coming back from a six month at Naas last time, the Peter Filly-trained put in a good showing to finish fifth and runs of the same mark of 52 here today.
The favourite for today’s encounter, Blastofmagic, won that one and repossess the selection here on a 5lb higher mark.
That leaves Jenniechild on an attractive mark if she can build on the promise of that run on return in Kildare.
At 7/2 she appeals more on these terms that does the market favourite at half that price and we’re hopeful that she can outrun her price at Limerick Junction tonight. All going well, that’ll get us moving into Derby weekend at the Curragh in a good position.
As the career of commentary legend Des Scahill winds down towards an end in a month’s time it’s worth keeping an ear out to hear those memorable tones for a last couple of times.
He’s a man who’s left an indelible mark on the sport and there are few more fitting epitaphs to a career than that.
