It’s from the picturesque setting of Tipperary that our daily tip comes from on an evening card from the Munster venue.
The second race on the card at 17:25 is a 45-70 handicap over the minimum trip. Among a field of uninspiring types and handicap debutants lurks a likeable sort who might able to show a modicum of ability more than the rest here.
Piper Bomb is a useful filly who ran with credit since switched to handicap company last year, winning once while her mark inched up all winter.
That victory was an effective mark of 57 and was impressive enough to encourage connections to throw her into the mix with a lot of more talented sorts off a mark of 64 and there’s little shame in her finish down the field.
The horse that won that day, Princess Yaiza, was last seen when coming third in the Cheshire Oaks off a mark of 98 and so it was always a tall order to toss Piper Bomb in with her ilk.
Back in a more manageable grade today, and with capable apprentice Thomas Sherry taking off a valuable 10lb brings her down to a racing weight of 58.
The drop to 5f shouldn’t be an issue as she’s shown enough zip to suggest she can cope and the prediction is that she’ll be coming strongly at the line despite the deep ground on course.
Odds of 11/1 seem generous and we’ll take a nice-sized position on Piper Bomb rewarding backers in Tipp tonight.
