Inspiral put in a stunning performance in the Coronation Stakes as Frankie Dettori silenced his critics after a difficult week at Royal Ascot. That keeps the 2yo filly unbeaten with five wins out of five and the pre-race confidence the punters put in this magnificent horse paid off.
Dettori once again found himself in the midfield for the majority of the race, but unlike on Reach For The Moon and Stradivarius yesterday, this time he found the space to break clear. He mounted a perfectly timed charge over the final two furlongs to pull away from Spendarella, who finished in second and secure a comfortable win. Discoveries secured a third place finish after a photo finish, but this was all about the winner.
It was a remarkable comeback for a horse that we haven’t seen since October, and having been met with a setback in her Guineas prep some were sceptical about the level of performance we would see from her here. Those doubters have been well and truly silenced here by a horse that has no limit in what she can achieve.
Inspiral flies home to win the Coronation Stakes.
Relief for @FrankieDettori

“She’s very special,” the great Dettori said on board the winner. “When she broke slow I thought ‘here we go again’, what else can go wrong? but I took a chance on the inside and she has got an engine, she got me out of trouble! It has been a tough week but we are on the board now. We can chillax a little.
“My head was thumping last night. I woke up this morning and it took me a while to warm-up then I thought about the races today. I thought, well I still have a couple of chances and not all is lost yet so - like AP said - it is hard to do but you have got to put that in a box, pull yourself together and concentrate.”
Dettori has finally ended that bad run of form at this year’s Royal Ascot and can now look ahead to the latter races today, and tomorrow’s schedule. Inspiral has got her crowning moment - in the Coronation Stakes.
