ITV Racing Tips Friday 18 May: Stradivarius Can Confirm Status As Classy Stayer In Yorkshire Cup
18:00, 17 May 2018

We move onto the third day of action from the Knavesmire this Friday after Roaring Lion’s punchy Dante success was the highlight of day two at York. ITV are showing five races live and after a fruitful day yesterday we’ve got a tip for each of them.

2:20 York - 5f Langleys Solicitors British EBF Marygate Fillies' Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (2yo)

A Listed contest kicks things off. A couple of fillies of real potential here, with the Lily Agnes winner No Lippy among them.

It’s the once-raced Strings Of Life who’s fancied to step up from her one run to date at Newmarket.

The daughter of Slade Power came past rivals impressively that day and can go close with a well of improvement potentially forthcoming.

2:35 Newbury - 6f Starlight Brightening Lives Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-100)

Baron Bolt is a worthy favourite for this zip down to Newbury, having been a fine second on his seasonal debut.

The one who bested him that day is a multiple Listed-level winner and he could be a cut above these with his mark left untouched.

2:55 York - 1m (7f192y) Longines Irish Champions Weekend Fillies' Stakes (Registered As The Michael Seely Memorial) (Listed) (Class 1) (3yo)

Threading showed so much promise in her two winning runs at two that Mark Johnston considered her to be a 1000 Guineas horse.

Two underwhelming showings this term, both at Newmarket, have put a question mark on her head but a return to York, scene of one of those wins last term, can help.

If she can regain her footing here she’ll be hard beaten - for all that it is an ‘if’.

3:30 York - 1m6f (1m5f188y) Mansionbet Yorkshire Cup (Group 2) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (4yo+)

The feature race of the day, and a fascinating one it is.

NH supremo Willie Mullins sends an intriguing fascinating pair of contenders, with high-grade hurdler Wicklow Brave being joined by the globe-trotting Max Dynamite, but that pair are difficult to assess and getting on in years.

The preference is for Stradivarius, who should have more progression in him at four after a great campaign last year, and might be able to take a grasp of the staying division with Big Orange on the sidelines.

16:05 York - 1m2½f (1m2f56y) Equinity Technology Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-100)

Old boy Master Carpenter loves it round here and pulverized a comparable field in this race last year. The ground is a question mark for him, though; he’s never won on ground with 'firm' in the description. He’s well worth a second look should there be a few showers on the Knavesmire overnight.

In the meantime, Ian Williams’ Banditry is offered up as a tentative selection.

He was steadily progressive last term and a fourth on reappearance at Newmarket should put him spot on for this. He should go well at a fair price.
