Broome was victorious in the Hardwicke Stakes on day five of Royal Ascot. Ridden by three-time Champion Jockey Ryan Moore, the Irish Thoroughbred led the field, including race favourite Hurricane Lane, by three lengths in a spectacular display.
Moore had nothing but compliments for Broome, and the way the horse has been looked after in the build-up. “The horse has been brilliantly prepared. He was just a different machine to what we know of him before” Ryan said. The jockey added, “He stretched out excellent, he was really, really good today.”
Broome’s trainer, Aidan O’Brien, has now reached 900 Grouped and Graded wins, a simply unbelievable record. This was also his 81st victory on the famous Ascot turf.
Hurricane Lane was ridden by William Buick, who has already ridden four winners over the course of this year’s Royal Ascot. He will be back at 4:20pm riding Creative Force, before three further rides to close out the weekend. He had to settle for third place here though.
Mostahdaf came second, ridden by 2016 flat racing champion Jim Crowley. Trained by John and Thady Gasden, it was a great result for the four-year-old. Richard Kingscote on Solid Atone came fourth in a hotly-contested race.
