It has very much divided opinion but today's all-weather meeting at Southwell goes ahead with their currently being just twenty-eight runners for all seven races. However all is not lost as I've snaffled out a selection that should have a really good chance this afternoon.
It comes in the 14:45 National Hunt Flat race over two miles where just three rivals line up and I'm fancying Phillip Kirby's NAUTICAL NITWIT to land the spoils. This nine-year-old was a four-time hurdle winner who was last seen at Doncaster at the start of February after a sixty-five day break.
Sent off a 16/1 shot this son of Let The Lion Roar produced a solid performance to out run his price and finish second just half a length behind Gunfleet.
Going off that he should not have too much to find for today's race and should be well respected.
One question mark over this race is that Nautical Nitwit has never raced over a trip this short before however he has produced placed efforts over 2m3f.
Jockey Nathan Moscrop is doing the steering this afternoon and his 5lb claim could be crucial over market rivals Bordeaux Bill and Volcanic. Looking at the prices Nautical Nitwit is currently an 5/2 shot which seems a fair price and hopefully he can get the weekend off to a stormer and give us a few beer tokens for this evening.
