Vinnie Lewis ‘Has A Great Chance’ In Sussex National Says Harry Whittington

In-form trainer Harry Whittington is expecting impressive Sedgefield winner Vinnie Lewis to ‘run a big race’, as the seven-year-old lines up in a strong Sussex National.

In what was his first victory over fences, he powered clear by 14 lengths and despite going up as many pounds he is very strongly fancied this afternoon.

“He’s in really good form,” said the Oxfordshire trainer.

“We were delighted with his win up at Sedgefield. He’s a young and improving horse and he is progressing really well for us.

“He has taken a real hike in the weights but there should be a bit more to come.

“He will love the ground, and will improve over this step up in trip. We are very happy with him, so hopefully he will run a big race.”

Local trainer Gary Moore is represented by pair Leo Luna and Coolking in the staying handicap.

The foremost finished third on his return at Fontwell, whilst Coolking needs to step up after failing to finish on his last three visits to the races.

“They are both in very good form,” said Moore.

“The ground will suit them both and there’s no real reason why either of them can’t run well. I would say Leo Luna has the better chance, but only slightly.”

Peter Bowen’s Henry Pari Morgan and Emma Lavelle’s Shotgun Paddy are all experienced in these types of races whilst Shanroe Santos finished second in a hot race at Cheltenham last time.

Big Meadow finished second on his chasing debut and may improve, whilst Bears Rails filled the same position for Colin Tizzard when last seen a month ago.

Milansbar, Frank N Fair, Bindon Mill, Rathlin Rose and Clondaw Cian also feature.

TIP: Vinnie Lewis was very impressive at Sedgefield and he looks open to further progression in this race. He is also very well fancied by his trainer and connections for this race. Shanroe Santos could run a good race, as could Bears Rails. I also think Big Meadow may have a good each-way chance.
