The Sportsman's Verdict
PRIVATE SECRETARY was only denied by a neck on his debut over 7f at Yarmouth back in August and that appears to be above-average form (the third has placed in Listed company subsequently). The step up to a mile should not be a problem for this half-brother to the St Leger third Michelangelo, as well as the Chester Cup winner No Heretic, and he tops the shortlist for this contest. The rest with form do not inspire much confidence but there are some very well-bred newcomers in this field. Space Blues is a Dubawi half-brother to the Group 2 and three-time Group 3 winner Shuruq, while his dam was also successful in a Group 2 over 7f. Nette Rousse cost 235,000 euro as a yearling and she is a half-sister to dual Hong Kong Group 1 winner Pakistan Star. Martin King cost connections 210,000gns and his dam was a Grade 1 winner in the US. Smarter, who shares his page with Jacqueline Quest (dam of the recent Breeders' Cup winner Line of Duty), failed to fire on his debut but he is surely better than he displayed on that occasion.
