The EFL has been much maligned in recent years, with many managers not taking the competition seriously until the latter stages. It is somewhat of a nuisance for lower-league clubs also, who would much rather focus their efforts on the league and then the famous FA Cup.
However, the one advantage for business' about the EFL Cup is that since 1961 it has been available to sponsor! This generates more revenue and prize money for the competition, making reaching the final an enticing prospect for the clubs involved.
Liverpool are the most successful team in the history of the competition, having won the little trophy a record eight times. This is three clear of nearest rivals Manchester United and Aston Villa. Chelsea are the most successful London side, with four wins, whilst Wolves, Swindon, Oxford, Blackburn and Swansea are the only sides with unbeaten records in finals.
This year, Manchester City, Bristol City, Chelsea and Arsenal are all competing to lift the trophy which has come under criticism for the way it has been marketed in Asia. One of the earlier rounds draws took place in the middle of the night, one round was meant to be streamed live on Twitter but was delayed by two hours whilst the first round was shambles in Bangkok as Charlton were drawn out twice!
These shambles should give you a clue to who is sponsoring the trophy but how far back can you remember? There is a short time limit on this one with only eight answers to get.
Good luck!
