The build-up to a major international tournament is something almost incomparable. The excitement, the nerves, the waiting for that opening game to get underway before finally our month-long festival of football begins. It used the be the reigning champions that kicked off the first game of a tournament but since the move to allow the hosts to play in the curtain raisers we have seen some truly unforgettable moments. Usually in front of capacity crowds, this time around things will be slightly different but we can be thankful that there will at least be some spectators in attendance in Rome on Friday night.

Roberto Mancini's Italy host a promising Turkish side with Lille's Ligue 1 winning hitman Burak Yilmaz leading the line for the visitors. They will be looking to cause a shock in the Stadio Olimpico while every player on the pitch will be looking to set Euro 2020 alight with the opening goal of the tournament. Sometimes these goals are absolutely unforgettable as you will find out in this quiz, but sometimes, the lesser-known players make their mark on the opening day of the biggest stage of all.

We've only gone back to Italia '90 here, but even still this quiz is sure to drive you insane. We have given you the clue of the country that scored the opening goal, but can you remember which player famously wrote their name into history? This quiz could be one of the toughest that we have ever put together so if you get more than eight, you have done brilliantly well.

Good luck!
