The Moussa Dembele transfer saga looks to have taken one late, dramatic, and final turn, according to reports.
Purveyors of all things gallic in the football world, Get French Football have reported that the 22-year-old Frenchman has signed a deal with the Ligue 1 club Lyon that would keep him there for five years, according to their own sources.
The deal is worth between €22M and €22.5M, according to the same reporting, a figure that was accepted by the Scottish Champions earlier this evening.
They claim that all that’s needed is a rubber stamp from the French league authorities.
“All that is left is for the LFP to ratify the contracts and Dembélé will officially become a Lyon player,” they write.
The French U-21 international has been subject to interest from both Lyon and Marseille towards the end of this transfer window, and the prospect of a move seemed likely earlier this week.
However, last night the Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said it was unlikely that the player would leave as the Hoops wouldn’t have been allowed adequate time to line up a replacement before the end of the international transfer window.
Dembele, who has scored an impressive 26 times for Celtic in 55 showings, was present for training this morning but left fifteen minutes into the session after a short chat with Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman subsequently said it was “unlikely” that the player would be involved in the Old Firm derby this weekend.
Now, according to these reports, he’s set to leave the club on the eve of Sunday’s game at Parkhead.
