4 Things We Learned From Last Night's Championship Matches As Leeds, Aston Villa And West Brom All Win

Leeds United fans get strapped in, you are in a title race.  A comfortable 3-0 win over Preston North End last night at Elland Road cemented the Whites' spot at the top of the Championship table and duly maintained their unbeaten start to the season, but they will have some notable contenders to fend off during the season as both Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion picked up wins last night.

We pick out FOUR things we learned on another entertaining night of Championship action.

Tyler Roberts A Huge Boost To Leeds' Title Quest

Kemar Roofe has taken the plaudits in the early weeks of Leeds' season, but with the in-form striker sidelined for a few weeks with a calf injury it's given teenage attacker Tyler Roberts the chance to show his qualities and the Welsh international stepped up with aplomb last night.

A second-half brace from the 19-year-old showed that Bielsa has significant strength in depth in the forward role, and the former West Bromwich Albion trainee showed that he can fill the boots of Roofe and Pablo Hernandez in an attacking role and that can only aid Leeds' chances of winning promotion to the Premier League.

Clinical West Brom Entitled To Be Second Favourites

Bristol City headed to The Hawthorns on the back of a four-match winning streak in the Championship, but the Robins were thumped by a fine attacking display from West Bromwich Albion, who beat Lee Johnson's men 4-2 on Tuesday evening.

City had 23 shots to the Baggies 11 attempts, but the hosts showed a lot more class and composure in front of goal with Jay Rodriguez bagging a brace, Dwight Gayle and the impressive Harvey Barnes netting the others, but while Darren Moore's side only had 49% of possession against the West Country outfit their ruthlessness in front of goal shows why they have been trimmed in the latest Championship betting.

Don't Write Off Aston Villa Just Yet

Goals from Yannick Bolasie and Tammy Abraham helped hand Aston Villa their first win in six matches as they eased past Rotherham 2-0 last night, but while many quarters were questioning Steve Bruce's tenure at the club the Villans duly moved into the final play-off spot with last night's win.

A squad swamped with experience Villa will improve for the addition of Bolasie, who can bring some razzmatazz to a somewhat flairless squad, but with some inviting games coming up against some of the less attractive sides in the league then Bruce could well use the Rotherham win as a catalyst for aiming to push into the automatic promotion spots.

Toothless Ipswich Appear Doomed For Drop

A 1-1 draw against second-placed Brentford looks a decent result on the face of it for Ipswich Town, but the Tractor Boys were outplayed for large parts of the game last night and it extended their winless run to eight games at the start of their Championship campaign.

Four draws and four defeats sees them bottom of the pile heading into Saturday's home game with Bolton Wanderers, but it's their lack of creativity across the park that will see them struggle and new boss Paul Hurst will have to turn things round quickly if he is to remain in a job at Portman Road.
