Bayern Munich have received a major boost ahead of their mouth-watering Champions League round of 16 tie with Liverpool.
Experienced goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has stated that he thinks he will be fit in time for the tie at Anfield on Tuesday.
The Bayern Munich captain and German international is trying to recover from a hand injury in time to face Jurgen Klopp's men.
Talking to ESPN, Neuer said: “We’re all positive about it. I think I’ll be between the posts. It’s my first game at Anfield. I’m looking forward to playing there. It’s a knockout tie, two finals. Hopefully, it’ll be a great night for us.”
The comments of his boss Niko Kovac were rather less optimistic about Neuer playing on Merseyside.
He said: "We’ll see how it goes against Ausgburg with a view to the Liverpool game. We have to take it one step at a time, we can’t take any risks. We don’t want to make things worse. We won’t play him until he says he’s ready and the doctors are happy.”
Bayern are already without the suspended Thomas Muller for both legs after he received a two-match ban for a foul on Nicolas Tagliafico during the 3-3 draw with Ajax in December.
Liverpool are not without their problems either. They are missing defender Virgil van Dijk for the first leg after he picked up three yellow cards in the group stages - leading to a one-match ban. It's a tie that promises to be one of the stand-outs of the competition so far.
