Angel Di Maria Reveals Who He Had A Problem With At Manchester United

Angel Di Maria continues to dominate the headlines after helping PSG claim a 2-0 win at former club Manchester United on Tuesday night.

The winger had quite the return to Old Trafford; during which he was lambasted by United fans, had a bottle lobbed in his direction, and was even hurled into the hoardings by Ashley Young.

But it was the Argentinian who had the last laugh as he assisted both goals for the French giants as they ran out winners in the first-leg, meaning his side are the scorching hot favourites to progress through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Di Maria was signed by United in the summer of 2014 for a blockbuster fee, a then British record £59.7 million. However, he failed to live up to expectations, struggling to adapt to life in Manchester, on-and-off the pitch, and in turn was shipped off to PSG the following summer.

The 30-year-old, who could possibly face a ban for appearing to tell United fans to “f*** off”, has today spoken about the experience of returning to United, and that he's never had a problem with the fans.

"It was difficult from the opening minute but I knew this was going to happen," Di Maria told Cadena Cope radio of the atmosphere as quoted in the Manchester Evening News.

"But I've said it in the past and I reiterate it, I never spoke badly of the people here and of this club.

"These are things that happen and people took it badly."

Di Maria also confirmed, to the surprise of no one, the main reason it didn’t work out at the Red Devils, blaming a certain Dutchman...

“I only had problems with the coach [Louis van Gaal] here.”

Di Maria scored just four goals in 32 games for the club, but believes the fault lies with the manager who didn't allow him to express himself. Van Gaal didn't last too much longer than Di Maria, as he was axed at the end of the following season, in order to make way for Jose Mourinho.
