Arsenal Aim To Keep The Pressure On As They Host Huddersfield
15:24, 28 Nov 2017

When is it?

Wednesday 29 November, with kick-off at 7:45pm at the Emirates Stadium.

Which channel can I watch it on?

It’s not available to watch live in the UK. You can follow through The Sportsman’s live score trackers.

Arsenal

Have stuck it to the critics with two big performances in the last two weeks, the first a dominating victory in the North London Derby before they once again won late at Burnley, with Alexis Sanchez’s penalty enough to give them victory at Turf Moor – the final strike coming once again in added time.

Both of those showings required all of the qualities that Arsenal are so often pilloried for, strength, composure and determination along with a clinical finish when the chance came.

Huddersfield

Have competed brilliantly considering the pre-season predictions after they went up via the play-offs. The Terriers would have bitten your hand off to be mid-table at this point in the season and they will be frustrated not to have taken a point against the unstoppable Manchester City. The visitors’ domination of possession was just too much in the second half to handle. They completed just 37 second half passes compared to 336 from the visitors and Raheem Sterling managed to break the deadlock.

They also beat second-placed Manchester United at home and have proven themselves to be no mugs.

Head to Head

It’s been a while. Arsenal beat Huddersfield 2-1 in 2011 when the two teams met in the FA Cup, where a late Cesc Fabregas penalty saw the Gunners progress to the fifth round. Before that, they met twice in the League Cup when Arsenal drew 1-1 at Highbury and also won 5-0 at Huddersfield in the space of a few months. That was in the 1993/1994 season, though.

Team News

Arsenal

Mesut Ozil may not play thanks to illness, having sat out the win over Burnley as well. It’s possible that with Manchester United on the horizon, Wenger could decide to rest Alexandre Lacazette and perhaps replace him with Danny Welbeck.

Huddersfield

After the final whistle had blown, Rajiv van La Parra was sent off for dragging his foot over Leroy Sane’s face and then pushing him in his face when he reacted. He could be replaced by Danny Williams, whilst Philip Billing (ankle injury), Michael Hefele (Achilles injury), Jon Gorenc Stankovic (ACL) are all out for long-term.

Likely XI’s

Arsenal: Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Sead Kolasinac, Alex Iwobi, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck

Huddersfield Town: Jonas Lossl, Florent Hadergjonaj, Zanka, Christopher Schindler, Chris Lowe, Jonathan Hogg, Aaron Mooy, Elias Kachunga, Abdelhamid Sabiri, Tom Ince, Steve Mounie.

Prediction

Huddersfield’s lack of goals, (they have just nine to their name, behind every other side in the league except Swansea City and Crystal Palace) is a problem and they have struggled on the road at time, but they are more than capable of going toe to toe with Arsenal. Arsenal have won four of their last five in the league and only lost to City during that time and they will expect to get past the Terriers, but this could be uncomfortable for a long time and it’s not impossible Huddersfield could take a point. 0-0.
