A shocking video posted on social media by a Tottenham fan shows scenes of absolute chaos at the Nou Camp as the travelling Spurs supporters appear to be violently struck with batons by Barcelona stewards during the 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.
Twitter user @LxcasMoura tweeted the 45-second clip, which has been viewed by 233k people, along with the caption:
I just need to address this issue which happened last night during the game. Absolutely disgusting behavior by Barcelona stewards hitting us with batons for no reason! @SpursOfficial please send this to @UEFA @ChampionsLeague its disgusting. RT to find these scumbags!
Spurs fans are heard shouting “we’ve got you on video” in the direction of the stewards who reacted by suddenly striking them with truncheons.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust tweeted this at the time of the incident:
We’re aware of significant issues entering the Nou Camp at Gate 21 this evening. We’ve requested an urgent debrief with the Club. In the meantime, if you have any photos or accounts you’d like to submit, please do send to us here or at [email protected]. Thank you.
Twitter has reacted in outrage at the shock scenes, with many fans of other English clubs documenting their own unsavoury experience in the away end of the famous stadium.
It’s not the first time Barcelona stewards have hit the headlines, back in April Chelsea made a formal complaint to UEFA over the ‘brutality’ of the Spanish club’s stewards after fans posted videos on social media showing police violence towards them.
