Good news for Burnley fans this afternoon as goalkeeper Tom Heaton has played 90 minutes in a training ground game today against Blackpool. He came through the game unscathed in a 1-1 draw and should be close to making his comeback for the first team.
Chris Wood also came through 70 minutes of the game having missed the last nine games with a knee injury. Sean Dyche will be pleased with the return to fitness of two of his more important players as Burnley look to get themselves out of this poor run of form.
Heaton was rusty early on in the game, conceding a penalty after just 60 seconds. Ex-Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing converted, however, a trialist for Burnley scored from midfield to level things up.
Stephen Ward and Nahki Wells also played during this game, giving Dyche even more options in the upcoming weeks. The Clarets are without a win in their last eleven games and are sliding towards the bottom half and possibly even an unlikely relegation battle.
Next up for Burnley is a crunch clash v Southampton at Turf Moor which could decide how their season ends up. Things started with such promise for Sean Dyche’s men, they were in the top four this season just before Christmas but have fallen away dramatically.
Nick Pope has done well deputising for the England hopeful Heaton but Dyche will be glad to have his first choice keeper available.
Hopefully, for Clarets fans, the return of their number one goalkeeper and Chris Wood will boost their performances and see them rise up the table.
