Ahead of Liverpool’s unmissable clash with Manchester City and the Etihad Stadium, a resurgent Red has been interviewed as to how far his team could potentially go.
Dejan Lovren has taken full advantage of Joe Gomez’ injury to slot neatly next to the splendid Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of defence and has contributed to the fact that not only to Liverpool’s exceptional defensive record - topping the standings for fewest goals conceded and most clean sheets in the Premier League - but also with a goal and an assist in his last two outings at centre-back.
Lovren was asked as to how much a threat their Gameweek 21 opponents - and incumbent Premier League champions - City pose to their own title challenge.
"They are still here,"
Lovren told Sky Sports News.
"They may have dropped points but if you look at their performances on the pitch, how they're playing and how many goals they are scoring, there is a reason our manager said they are one of the best in the world.
"Last year they were in our position and did it amazingly. Now we are in their position and we need to learn how they did it and finish the season well.
"We couldn't expect more than this, it's a brilliant feeling. We need to enjoy every game and just concentrate on ourselves and hopefully we can see ourselves in the same position in five months."
Lovren was further probed as to whether Liverpool can match Arsenal’s incredible, invincible, unbeaten season managed in 2003/2004. Liverpool haven’t suffered a single defeat so far this season.
"There are always records to beat. Everything is possible when you believe and you work hard.
"Of course, you need the luck to go your way also, but why not? It is a challenge for us and every player here.
"Will it be possible? Let's see at the end of the season."
