Loris Karius will take a break from his helter-skelter time on Merseyside after a move to Turkey, looks set to be confirmed by the club.
Super Lig outfit Besiktas are set to announce the signing of the 25-year-old on a two-year loan, according to Paul Joyce. Last year’s fourth-placed side in the Turkish top flight had been interested in Liverpool’s other back-up goalkeeper, the Belgian Simon Mignolet, but baulked at the cost of a deal.
They have now secured their man and will look to challenge for the Super Lig this season, whilst Liverpool will settle for having Simon Mignolet as their back-up goalkeeper to Alisson.
Reported in Kicker Bundesliga Jurgen Klopp said: "I didn't tell Karius what he wanted to hear, but how it is. The Champions League final had nothing to do with us getting Alisson. Even if we had won it and Alisson would have been on the market we would have still signed him.”
The German stopper Karius watched on from the bench at Anfield as his replacement Alisson Becker, the £66M signing from Roma this summer, kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 reverse of West Ham in the Reds’ season opener.
Having suffered ridicule following his game-changing errors in the Champions League final against Real Madrid in May, he was warmly received when making an appearance off the bench at Anfield in the club’s final pre-season friendly against Torino.
The Reds do have two well-thought-of young ‘keepers in their ranks in the form of Caoimhin Kelleher and Kamil Grabara, having let Danny Ward leave for Leicester City in a £12.5M deal earlier in the summer.
