Chelsea Changes Have Turned N'Golo Kante Into A ''Very Average Midfielder'' Says Jamie Carragher

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher says N'Golo Kante is wasted in the formation currently favoured by Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

He made the comments after Tottenham Hotspur beat the Blues 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday, a game which the 'home' side dominated from the off and could have even more goals by half-time.

The former Liverpool defender has urged Chelsea to move  Kante and change their formation, allowing the French World Cup winner to play in the role which made him one of the Premier League's most prized players.

Carragher argues that Kante is a "very average midfielder" when he's out of position, stating that he is not cut out to be an attacking midfielder.

While this may seem like a knee-jerk reaction after Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season, Carragher would not be shifted from his view.

"Jorginho is not moving from that position," stated Carragher. "He's Sarri's man, he's built his team around him. Kante is not moving because he's signed a massive contract.

"What I would say is Jorginho has been excellent this season. Teams are having to change their system and style to counter-act Jorginho. So that shows how important he is and how good he has been.

'So if he's getting man-marked, as he was, by Dele Alli, [Gylfi] Sigurdsson, Juan Mata... that means there should be space for other players. This is Chelsea. They have big players. The space was in the wide areas [against Spurs], so we want to see more from Eden Hazard, Willian, the full-backs. The one thing about Kante is he is a very average player in this [advanced] position he's playing now. I see a normal midfielder player."

"When he plays deeper, I see a world class midfield player."
