Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been linked with a shock move to Spain following his lack of playing time under Jurgen Klopp.
According to the Mirror, La Liga sides Celta Vigo and Valencia are keen on signing the 28-year-old, as he looks to boost his chances of making England’s squad for the 2018 World Cup.
Sturridge has started just five games in the Premier League for Liverpool this season following the form of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in attack.
The England international also missed the Merseyside derby on Sunday with a slight hamstring injury ruling him out.
In a recent interview, Klopp praised the shape Sturridge is in, while he is reluctant to see him leave the club with the possibility of a fellow forward picking up an injury.
“Physically, Daniel is in the best shape since I came," revealed Klopp. "But, obviously, there are a few players around him who are not that bad as well!”
“I was really happy with his impact when he came on in the game at Brighton – a lot of strikers in his situation would have shot when he passed to Sadio. With the fantastic level the team plays, that’s how it should be. For all the training sessions, he’s always in and always spot-on.
“At the moment, there is absolutely nothing to say about the transfer window because tomorrow there could be one injury and Daniel could play the next five or six games.”
Celta Vigo and Valencia are likely to favour a loan move for Sturridge, as his transfer fee and wages may prove too much for a permanent move.
England boss Gareth Southgate is unlikely to include Sturridge in his World Cup squad if his current situation at Anfield doesn’t change, however, a short-term switch to Valencia could boost his chances with the Spanish club battling for the La Liga title.
