Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a plethora of goals in his career, from stunning strikes to cheeky flicks and tap-ins to absolute pearlers, but few if any will top the sensational bicycle kick he conjured up against Juventus in Turin on Tuesday night.
It’s a goal that will go down as one of the very best in the history of the Champions League.
Ronaldo opened the scoring in the quarter-final first-leg after just three minutes, after he skilfully flicked the ball home from seven-yards to give Real Madrid that vital away goal.
Real headed into the break with a 1-0 lead, but then within 20 minutes of the restart Ronaldo had bagged his brace.
The Portuguese footballing icon produced a moment of impeccable perfection, which left the whole stadium absolutely stunned, with all corners of the Allianz Arena applauding the goal.
The ball was whipped into Real’s No.7 in the middle of the penalty area. In the blink of an eye, with his back to goal he raced towards the ball then performed an acrobatic overhead kick which cannoned into the back of the net, leaving the legendary Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon rooted to the spot. And quite frankly perplexed at to had just happened.
The goal was Ronaldo’s 39th of the season, and quite incredibly the 649th of his career.
