David Dog Gea: Canine Keeper Emulates Manchester United Stopper With Amazing Penalty Save
19:23, 27 Nov 2018

Dogs are renowned for being a man's best friend and one little Dachsund earned a friend for life with a quite sensational David de Gea impersonation.

A dog entering the field of play always earns great social media attention and a South American canine was earning rave reviews when it became an unsuspecting hero during a match.

A player was lining up a penalty during a football match and appeared to absolutely 'do' the goalkeeper as he dropped his shoulder in Eric Cantona-esque fashion to send the keeper the wrong way...

The ball appeared to be cruising into the bottom corner as the keeper laid prone on the floor, before the intervention of the Dachsund as he came to the human stopper's aid.

The little hound came from behind the goal and wondered straight in front of the ball. It managed to deny a certain goal as it blocked the ball bravely with its body, giving out a little yelp, as the penalty taker looked away in despair.

There were belly laughs from the crowd, joy for the keeper and chaos ensued as the referee wasn't sure whether to let the penalty be retaken or whether a goal should be awarded!

You can see the penalty incident and the Dachsund's moment in the sun by clicking 'play' in the Twitter video below. It was a save that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea would no doubt be proud of...

Goal or no goal? We'll let you decide whether the Dachsund's sensational save should be allowed to stand...
