Though no new faces arrived at The Theatre of Dreams this past January transfer window, Manchester United have steamed ahead by tying a good handful of players down to the club for the future.

Anthony Martial and stalwart Ashley Young have both signed new deals in recent weeks, with goalkeeper David De Gea and the most in-form forward in England, Marcus Rashford, reportedly in talks to extend their tenure at the club.

And now Phil Jones, yes, The Phil Jones has been provided with a stunning new four-year deal worth £100,000 per week.

“Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player, he has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League and is now one of the senior players within the team,” said interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Jones signed his new contract;

“He is coming up to his 27th birthday and entering into his prime years as a centre half. We are delighted Phil has committed his future to the club.”

The player himself said, via the official Manchester United website;

“I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Manchester United has been a big part of my life for eight years and I love everything about this club.

“I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead of us as we prepare for a very busy period in the season. I would like to thank Ole and the coaching staff for their continued support in my development.”

Fans, however, didn’t share the same enthusiasm as the much-maligned defender put pen to paper to extend his time at the club he’s been at since 2011.

“DISGUSTING, BIRTHDAY'S RUINED now Phil Jones has been giving a new contract. Solskjaer's killed us here.” @S_Allen99

"Why are we giving Phil Jones a new contract? Guy is useless!" @danpetermoore

"I No Dey Understand Them. Phil Jones, Fuckin Phil Jones?" @neneyeboah

"With Phil Jones getting a new contract, I think even I could secure myself a decent deal at United." @UtdDxn

"Phil Jones has been rewarded a new 4 year deal +1 for what exactly? We have to stop rewarding mediocre players, just as I thought we were moving forward. A terrible decision from the board." @ManUnitedMedia

Despite the haters, Jones however has been given the last laugh. He Has a better pass success rate (94.2%) than any other player in the Premier League this season (10+ apps) and is now an 100k a week player.
