Manchester United’s Paul Pogba was delayed in Turin in the aftermath of his side’s Champions League win over Juventus on Wednesday due to his selection for a random drugs testing.
The French world cup winner remained at the Allianz Stadium arena after his teammates had left and didn’t get proceedings finish in time to catch a flight back to Manchester with them.
Pogba, instead, had to catch a later flight along with club staff and fans.
Having spent four years with the Old Lady, he was reticent to celebrate his club’s last-gasp winner in Turin and was appreciative of the warm reception he got from the fans he once represented in black and white.
His comments will perhaps do nothing to quell the links that persist about the possibility of a return to Serie A for him.
“Who knows? I’m with United now. There is so much talk about this, but am happy to be playing for Manchester United,” Pogba told Sky Sport Italia.
“The win was important, but the Juve fans gave me such a warm welcome.
“I didn’t celebrate when we went 2-1 up, it felt too strange. I saw so many people that I know well. We played against a great team and we really had to win.
“It was wonderful coming back here, although it felt weird going into the ‘away’ locker room. I was so accustomed to the Juve one.
“The reaction of the fans really moved me, as I missed them and Italian football. It was great to be back in this stadium, where I started out and won big trophies.”
