England attacker Beth Mead has been nominated for Uefa’s Player of the Year award while Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman has been named as a contender for Coach of the Year.
Both have been recognised following England’s Euro 2022 triumph in July, with the duo having played key roles in helping the side secure their first international title in history as they defeated Germany 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

Mead had a stellar tournament individually, scooping up the Player of the Tournament award as well as the Golden Boot after netting six goals. The 27-year-old also provided four assists, the most of any player in the tournament too. Her nomination for this accolade adds to her contention for this year’s Ballon d’Or, the winner of which will be revealed later this year.
Also up for the award are Germany’s Lena Oberdorf, who had an impressive Euro campaign, winning the Best Young Player award, and Spain’s Alexia Putellas, who sadly missed out on the tournament due to a knee injury suffered just before the Euros began.
As for Wiegman, she is going up against Germany boss Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and Lyon manager Sonia Bompastor, who won the Champions League with her club last season. The winners for both awards will be revealed at the 2022-23 Champions League group stage draw ceremony which will be held at the Halic Congress Center in Istanbul on August 25.
